So what makes you think abolishing alimony would make the slightest bit of difference of what a man pays his ex? Few women today still receive alimony in a divorce settlement yet their ex-husbands still are forced to send them fat monthly cheques. Only today the money is called "child support" instead of alimony.

Yes. We all know that money is earmarked for the support of the man's children. But who is naive enough to believe that his ex-wife does not benefit financially from those payments as well? Money is still money regardless of what label you slap on it.

Face it. Men have always paid women and they always will. It might not seem fair but it's the way the world works. Accept it.

Umm - everlasting alimony could desire to be banned - it can be a call for that help basically observe until such time through fact the different occasion can stand on his/her very own 2 ft - and it could be utilized the two techniques the two interior the 1st place. Alimony has grow to be a shaggy dog tale interior the sought after age, on account that few adult adult males are greater advantageous off than women human beings and as a result there is hardly any imbalance in a courting. If, as an occasion, the two worked and contributed to a marriage, then they could desire to section without alimony - or possibly with a small adjustment until such time as concerns are equivalent, on account that the two lose component to a existence-style, existence help equipment, and so on. additionally:- Due and careful attention could desire to settle for to the circumstances of ruin-up. whether that's a on an identical time consented element - I fail to work out why a consenting occasion could desire to receive alimony considering's an equivalent determination thinking approximately all issues considered beforehand. whether that's a ruin-up demanded by ability of one for little or no actual reason, that one shouldn't receive alimony. you decide on it, you lose it.

Alimony was only ever awarded in cases where the woman was a housewife during the marriage. If the woman worked, she was not awarded alimony. Since some women still choose to be housewives and their husbands approve of them staying home alimony can't be abolished. In modern terms its usually only awarded for a few years while the woman is in school re-training for the workforce.

Yes, I think alimony should be abolished. Especially since not all women get it any way & it is too easy for women to abuse the system when trying to obtain it. Temporary spousal support is reasonable, especially if the wife hasn't worked because she has stayed home with the children. But at some point a man should have the right to be free of shouldering his exes responsibilities. I mean, a woman gets to be totally free of her maritial responsibilites after a divorce, why shouldn't a man? A woman might be use to a certain lifestyle before the divorce, but things change--and that is one law that needs overhauling.

Of course not!- as long as the law refers to "spouses", and not to any gender.

A marriage is a partnership, and generally the spouse with the highest earnings potential has an uninterrupted career of hopefully increased earnings every year. The other spouse typically stops working to raise children- even when he/she works, this spouse typically takes a job with fewer hours or otherwise is subordinate to his/her role of child care.

If I'm not mistaken, the amount of alimony is reduced by the expected "market" wage that the spouse can be expected to earn. This is based on work experience, education, etc. So a non-working spouse who is an attorney may get little or no alimony, versus one who has no higher education.

This works the same way for a man.

If a man makes more money than a woman (and visa-versa) then they are accustomed to a certain way of living. In many divorces it's stated that the person will receive alimony for a certain length of time and then it ends.

It all basically comes down to this, you live within your means and it doesn't matter what the other spouse made to allow you to live higher than the extra paycheck.

No i dont think so.. i think it should depend on their income.. if their income isnt very much then theres no reason not to give it.. i mean if the man is making say 65,000.00 a year and she's making 30,000.00 theres a significant difference.. and i think alimony should go both ways if she's the one making the significant amount then she should pay him alimony if its needed..

And in alot of states now they give "rehab. alimony" which is basically to help pay for courses so they can get a better education to get a better job and the alimony ends after a certain amount of time that they get their degree..
