Simple...

10 - 3 = 7 men that receive single portions

the other 3 receive double portions

If each of the 7 men receive x portions,

then the boatman, foreman and doorkeeper receive 2x portions

Since there are 100 loaves in all,

7x + 2x + 2x + 2x = 100

7x + 6x = 100

13x = 100

x = 7 (Approx)

So each of the 7 men receive 7 loaves each.

The boatman, foreman and doorkeeper receive

7x2 = 14 loaves

Check back:

7x7 + 7x2 + 7x2 + 7x2

= 49 + 14 + 14 + 14

= 49 + 42 = 91

There are 9 loaves unaccounted for, so plug in 9 in place of 100 in the equation with x and solve for x again. Then you will get all loaves accounted for and a precise answer.

Hope I got it correct!

100 loaves divided by 10 men plus three extra portions =
100/13 = 7 and 9/13 loaves

Ok subtract the 10 men by 3
that = 7
count the 3 men as double
so that is 6
add the two together =13
100/13=7.69
(the 7 men git 7.69 each)
double 7.69 back since the 3 men git twice the amount
(so the 3 men git 15.38 each.)
