It is funny watching the young sport bike riders out there trying to show off. Usually people in their teens or 20s. When they stop at a red light, they look around at everyone in the cars like they are so cool. Are you having an identity crisis? Come on, the people in their cars do not know who you are so why are you trying to show off for people you will never know. LOL. Also, you get all of this gear that matches your bike so that you will "look" cool/pretty riding around. Give me a break. You are causing us all to doubt your heterosexuality. Ride your bike because you want decent transportation, not because you want to try to impress people or use it as a fashion statement.

Not jealous. I could buy a sport bike tomorrow if I wanted. It is that showing off has no value to any of us on the road.

You all confirmed what I thought about sport bike riders. I expected most of these answers. Thanks.

Wow, you see these squids actually WEARING GEAR? And you're COMPLAINING that it matches?

The only things I usually see match around here are the white T-shirts and white cotton socks, easily visible because they wear shorts! All that, and a full-face helmet; as if just wearing a helmet will do anything for a guy riding essentially naked!

Yes, squids THINK they're cool, but matching leathers is a pretty big investment. I doubt a rider in full leather is completely clueles about how to ride the piss out of his bike. Instead of simple transportation, try riding a bike that you can LEAN more than 10 degrees before scraping something.

And since you seem to be confused about sexual orientation, wearing leathers doesn't make you gay, getting pounded in the rear end by a hairy pornstar followed by taking a load down your throat makes you gay. Just wanted to clarify that for you, Mr. Fashion Police.

Go ahead and whine about my answer while you're at it. Report me, even. Then go call the WAAAHmbulance!

If they are in their teens or twenties, then I am GLAD that they are wearing the right gear. And sorry, but sportsbikes are what the word means, and not intended as 'decent transportation', any more than yuppies in Porches really NEED one to get to and from work - but good luck to them, if that is what they want. So people who spend $200,000 on a car are not image concioius, or have identity crises? Who would ever buy a sports CAR, and not want people looking at them?
PS: The 'in' car around here, for the guys with puberty still running between their ears, is the Subaru Imprezza WRX - goes like a rocket; but one of them just TRY to take me at the lights on my 'Prilia - and I'm 56.

Jerry, you need to be more observant. While it's true that the obvious squids get the most attention, most sportbike riders do not fit into your stereotype.

And I wonder why you are so concerned over something that has no effect on you---me thinks the pot calls the kettle black over the identity crisis issue.

Now addressing the clothing issue: Many riders buy protective gear for obvious reasons (and smart reasons too). When they are buying that equipment, they have choices of colours, styles, etc. Naturally, if you have a choice and are going to buy protective equipment anyway, then it stands to reason that you would choose styles and colours which augment the bike you ride.

I don't see anything wrong with checking your surroundings while stopped at a red light. It could prevent an accident. It could be that they are watching for a cop before they crank on the throttle, it sucks to get a ticket. As far as their gear goes, having matching gear is nothing new, Harley riders have been wearing matching gear for years.(It's all black of course.) If people are having fun why knock them for it. I'm glad to see them having a good time no matter what they are wearing or riding. Why come on here and insult someone for doing their own thing?

I like sport bikes simply because they are the best. They have the best performance and always have the latest in technology. Sport Bikes also to me considered the safest. Ya their are sum people who get the sport bikes just to look cool and it is sad because they are actually putting them self in danger. In addition, as for the leather I don’t personally have any but if they want them let them have them. The full body leathers are probably the best thing for them because they will actually protect them in case anything should happen. Instead of being so negative you should be helping these people become better so that they wont be in any danger to they're self or to others and will enjoy the ride that much more. Plus you wouldn't have to get so angry. : P

It appears that you spend a lot of time observing sportbike riders. I'm a little concerned that you have most of the situation reversed.

Regarding the matching gear. Bike riders of all kinds are buying brighter gear so that they will be more easily observed by many of our not so observant vehicle drivers. Make sure you spend as much time watching sportbikers on the road as you obviously do at the intersections.

I gotta go with Shades on this one. Hes right

...only 1 thing to add for all the ignorant people out there. Most of those fancy leathers you see that im assuming you are referring to on sportbikers also have body armor and re-enforcment to protect our a$$e's. And so what if they look cool! Dont be jealous! Why do you feel the need to hate.

Also...I think its safe to say that we dont all ride only for transportation. It is in our blood and we love it. We do what we do cause we want to and we can! I dont gotta lie, im a big f'n show off. All i gotta say is F all the haters! Stop worryin what we do and worry about youreself if you dont like it!

Sounds just like me 30 years ago, 16 and proud of my new gold and white Triumph Bonneville trying to be cool and having fun. Should youngsters be any different today? We just try to be more subtle about it as we get older, at least some of us do.

I get more of a kick out of watching the aging baby boomers on their first bike...always a Harley, decked out in all Harley brand gear head to foot, and driving slow with striaght pipes that drown out the sound of low flying jets. Everything black, half helmet, leather vest, XXXL leather chaps, all spanking new. But I guess they are finally living that dream and having fun playing biker dress-up.

Haven't you seen the H-D riders posing? I believe they do it a lot more than the sport bike riders. They wear new leathers with as many patches and pins as they can buy, won't acknowledge any rider of another brand of bike. The next time you pull up alongside or behind an H-D and look to see if they don't pose themselves to whomever may care to look back at them.

Well we buy all of that gear to protect ourselves from idiots in cars just like you. And if your gonna blow a few grand on gear why not buy nice looking stuff that matches well? And well we show off because we can, it's fun, and it pisses hard ons like you off and thats more than enough reason to satisfy me. And just to put salt in that wound i'm 19, have gone over 160mph on public roads, have done 120mph wheelies on public roads, and own over 40,000$ worth the bikes. I don't crash because i've been riding dirt bikes since i'm 5 and know when and where it'll be safe for me to goof off.
