What is the difference bewtween freedom and liberty?

Freedom is narrowly defined by Classic Liberals and Neoliberals as the ability to act without restraint from the government, or more broadly defined as the ability to have access to particular resources from the government without constraint by Social Liberals and most variants of Socialism. The latter designates a negative condition in which an individual is protected from tyranny and the arbitrary exercise of authority, while the former implies the right to exercise civil rights, such as standing for office.

Mill offered insight into the notions of soft tyranny and mutual liberty with his harm principle.[1] Overall, it is important to understand these concepts when discussing liberty since they all represent little pieces of the greater puzzle known as freedom. In a philosophical sense, morality must supersede tyranny in any legitimate form of government. Otherwise, people are left with a societal system rooted in backwardness, disorder, and regression.

To be in the mod of current standards of both freedom and liberties there are no more than the common people giving up their limited control to the government -but the USA is founded upon life , liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all -but in 2007 this is a joke of the weakest kind--i lived through Vietnam and we all thought it was a joke but the Iraqi war is something I have no definition for at all-the government is not only making a joke out of us but are taking away our freedoms and our liberties daily--the so called Patriot Act is a horrible joke- I had a savings account for years and went into switch it over to a checking and had to finally raise hell and ask for the manager of the little tiny bank --and am surprised the cops were not called and this is but a fraction of the freedoms being sucked right out of the wonderful peaceful USA which now most of the world hates, because of one administration. AND WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO JUSTICE FOR THE COMMON PPL.?

basically nothing. There essentially interchangable words. Which one is used depends on which sounds better. For example the American Civil Freedoms Union doesn't sound as good as the American Civil Liberties Union, or having the liberty of speech doesn't sound as good as freedom of speach.

According to my old dictionary, freedom goes the whole nine yards to ease of movement, and unrestricted use or access; while liberty only went to having permission and authorization.
