Without the first amendment you cannot express the others

By the 'first amendment rights' you mean:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

A society that fails to protect those rights is free?

Is there a particular right on the list you think is not required and the society should still call itself free with a straight face?

Only Fascist and Communist governments feel threatened by their citizens having these rights.
