Why believe the negative things you imagine and not some possible positive outcomes? Substitute a positive for every negative. I'm cheering you on. You can do it. You can. C. :)!!

If you are turning your thoughts inwards too much, then actively make the decision to turn your thoughts outwards towards connecting with other people and finding pleasure in what is around you. Don't let yourself dwell on introspection, bring yourself back to noticing something nice you can see, or hear, or touch or taste or smell (our senses are really grounding and all about present experience). Find a way to connect with someone: ask a question, share a thought, give a compliment.

Take time to deliberately look for all the nice things that you have stopped noticing - the way the sunshine looks so pretty through the clouds, the way it smells when the grass is cut, the way a friend crinkles around their eyes when they smile, the way fresh fruit or veg from the garden always tastes so amazing.

Check out what happens if you take some chances and don't hold back or overthink. Does it end up with the worst case scenarios you might imagine, or do you normally cope or even have some fun? Why not try deliberately doing something the way someone you admire would, rather than the way you would normally do it, just for a change? Remind yourself that you can be whatever you want to be, talk positively to yourself rather than talking yourself down. Imagine what you would advise a friend, rather than what you normally say to yourself when you get into these negative thinking patterns.

Why not find some inspiring passages from books, quotes from people that have meaning for you, or pictures of characters or people that you admire and collect them somewhere (eg a scrapbook, or a collage). Find a hobby that you can gain pleasure and success from. Ask people for positive feedback. All these things will give you confidence, and change your thinking. If you want a book to work on anxious or negative thinking try either Mind over Mood by Greenberger and Padesky (for adults, its a self-help workbook) or if you are younger try Mind over Mood by Paul Stallard, which is for children and teens but is along similar lines.

Good luck with it :o)

Study Hamlet.
Seriously, the whole play is a clinical study in action versus contemplation. Shakespeare was a genius.
The problem in most people is not thinking too much, but in rehashing the same decisions over and over again, or second guessing future actions before they are taken. Some actions are so important that people may use the need to be sure as an excuse to put off going ahead. Occasionally you will run across a person who over-prepares for everything they do, so they never actually get around to doing very much.
But usually it's better to avoid mistakes by examining enough factors going into a decision than to leap before you look.
If you do feel that you are just covering the same ground over and over without turning up anything new before acting, just remind yourself that you have a plan, you are going to stubbornly stick to it, and worrying doesn't solve anything. Then there is nothing left to do but act.

Usually, as in with the case of my self, it is an underlying issue of self confidence, and not having enough of it.

Find something new in your life, change something, for the better, something that will make you feel like new, and this will be solved for awhile. When you start to feel the same way again, find a way to make yourself feel like new again.

if ur thinking too much n then holding urself back it cud be cuz u are under-confident of urself... u must be judging ur self lower than ur actually capabilities...

well i'll suggest that even if u do that, work hard on d thing ur doin..thats more important... it wil help u stop evaluating the situation before it has actually happened...

stop thinking the obvious cuz u never know wat life's probability might show u... so lik just work for a thing...
n wait for results... cuz atleast then even if u fail ull be satisfied that u tried...

holding ur self back is worse cuz then u dont even try

I once knew a couple of folks whose favorite saying seemed to be, "Just do something, even if it's wrong, just do it." I know I feel better than if I just keep sitting on my @ss. It seems to work for us.
Blessed Be

first you gotta know that it takes practice.
practice holding on to your gut feeling and instead of dismissing it... GO FOR IT.
and practice it again...you wont get it right the first couple times. just KEEP practicing.
