We lost the moment we started.
The entire world views America as a murderous bully, now if that ain't losing I don't know what the hell is.

I didn't support the invasion in 2003. However, I did not foresee that the war would last for 5 years now with no end in sight. Like most folks, I was not surprised by the collapse of the Iraqi army and the relative ease the US was able to get to Baghdad. I know, as a vet, the fighting spirit of the US military. What has been shocking is to hear of the ill planning by the amateurs at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and the wasting of fine troops in this damn war.

Another Bushie who does not quite understand the level of incompetence that this government has shown to the world. If I remember the facts, something Bushies conveniently ignore, we invaded a country that did not attack us. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. In fact, during one of Bush's press conferences he stated that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. So why exactly are we in Iraq Bushie? If you are so happy being an arm chair general, why don't you enlist in the Army so you can practice what you purport to believe.

What a lot of people misunderstand is we won the military part of the war. The war of 03 ended quickly as the Iraqi army surrendered, So yes I though we would win but also though it would be tough to win all the separate groups fighting to control Iraq, now that part I am no longer sure we will ever win or will anyone ever truly control Iraq

What is this "victory", or lack thereof, you speak of?
Iraq is not a situation that can be won, or lost.
The only thing we have done is topple one madman, who will eventually be replaced by another.
We also verified what the intelligence agencies knew beforehand, that Saddam had no WMD's.
We have created the potential alliance of Iraq and Iran, or the potential takeover of Iraq, by Iran.
I don't see how either one or the other won't happen eventually, given 5 or 10 years...unless we keep all of our troops there.
EDIT:
And my answer is down-thumbed. Not that I care, but why? Because I don't believe in this Bush led disaster?

There was never a doubt in my mind that the US would win militarily and lose politically. I could never figure out what the US really thought they would gain. I can only assume the War Mongers in the White House really believed their own propaganda about creating a democratic role model for the middle east. The problem I saw was the Democracies aren't made they grow organically. Trying to impose the US vision upon a country that was neither willing or able to accept it was foolish.

The initial war was a solid rear end kicking. But by not securing the weapons caches, the money (You remember the $800,000,000 in cash that disappeared before the troops could secure Saddam's residences) and the border Bush insured that we would need to be there for years to come. You call it success, I call it a SNAFU. Maybe even FUMTU but not quite TARFU yet. Look it up on Wikipedia someday

do no longer purchase into the conflict for oil crapola. Saddam Hussein used WMD's against the Kurds in northern Iraq and he continuously violated the no fly zones in Iraq that have been set up after the 1st Gulf conflict. it rather is why we went in there. No oil.

I didn't believe we would lose miserably, I was just shocked to see it begin...history is full of fools...Bush will have to get in line. To "Mel"...soldiers are not babies, they know more than you or I do about the daily situation...If you told them life is a bowl of cherries and they were losing their friends...I think they would know that a fight was taking place....They are completely uninsulated from the reality of being there, because they are there...I am old, but served my time...and if I was in an uncertain situation, I would appreciate that the people back home were actively thinking about it and not just going about their business and forgetting about me

I knew we would loose.
I was shut down by those who knew better.
Those that knew better were looking through rose colored glasses.
Those that still know better are still using the same glasses.
Proud to say, unlike the rose colored glasses crowd, both past and present, I used my common sense.
Peace
Jim
Yep, a thumbs down by the uncommon sense crowd -- way to go, keep supporting a quagmire and we'll just keep the world hating us more and more.

I didnt really think of it as win or lose. I thought in 2003 we were going to get WMD and dismantle some Al-Q training bases as well as depose Saddam. My opinion is mission accomplished time to come home.
