Its hotter than Earth for 2 reasons:
1. Its closer to the sun so it gets a lot more heat and light from the sun than the Earth
2. Its atmosphere is thick with carbon dioxide and methane, so-called "greenhouse" gases because they let the sunlight through, which heats the surface. But these gases don't let the heat out, so the temperature keeps rising.

Thanks to the runaway greenhouse affect of its atmosphere, Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system. Hotter than Mercury even though Mercury is the planet closest to the sun.

The surface of Venus is hot enough to melt lead.
CO2 is mostly to blame, since the atmosphere of Venus is mostly that gas, and it traps heat.
