They would have their prolific young earlier in the season and they would be at a stage now to start making their own way in the world by the end of the season - so there would be the most at the end of summer. Most of them will probably end up getting predated. Spiders are interesting in that they never get in huge numbers (say in a crop to be effective biological control) because if they do they start eating each other. Climate would also influence numbers of them and their prey that they eat.

Smaller. Spiders increase in size as they eat more. With orb weavers, as the spider gets larger, the web gets larger. At some stage the spider needs to build a web that will cross paths, clearings etc and you see them or walk into them. Before that the webs were smaller and to the side of paths so you didn't notice them.

Go out on a cool dewy morning and you will see all the spiders' webs.

they are spinning there webs to catch there food to store up for winter, they've been watching the squirrels and chipmunks!~♥~
