Most answers will go far above the heads of the typical user of weed. An altered state of consciousness and awareness precludes many of the issues related to the use of mind altering substances and any meaningful discourse.
The irony and the lack of intelligence is that the user uses weed to counteract emotional state that they create in the first place. The more common uses of weed include the issues of anger, depression and anxiety. Why anyone would create anger in their minds and then need to soothe it with a 'doobie' is just ludicrous and defiant of any real reasoning. But alas, they are smarter than I am as I do not use weed or drink alcohol.
The need for weed is just someone who has yet to master their own thinking.
The dealer is the smart one in the transaction. Like a pharmaceutical company, they make an extraordinary amount of money off of those who choose to use.
Oddly, most people don't even recognize when drugs are used to groom them for a variety of social behaviours like theft and prostitution. Beware "a friend with weed is a friend in deed". Of course, who am I. The smoker has far more intelligence that I could ever hope for.

I actually don't think it to be either. I've smoked it recreationally with friends and such, but I just never found it to be all that great and I would have no problem living without it, thus, I don't see it as a gift from God. In no way do I see it as being something of the Devil, because it really isn't that bad. Smoking it actually is used medicinally for cancer patients to cope with the nausea of the chemotherapy. So, it can't necesarily be something of the Devil if it helps people and eases their suffering.

God created it, man perverted its usage. Go look up all the many uses for hemp. Addiction, a tool of Satan in MANY situations, came about after creation. Heck, God MAY have intended man to even smoke it and have a good time -- we don't know. This, however, would be a good time without all the problems of addiction.

God created it, so it is good.
By itself, it is nothing. It is how people related to it, use it, abuse it, that makes all the difference.
You might as well ask if doughnuts are a "gateway" food, because obviously, there are millions of people in this world that cannot resist stuffing their pie holes. Is chocolate addictive? What do you think?
The key, my friend is self-control and moderation.
Some have it.
Some do not.

Are you seriously asking this question??
Yeah, god really loves going around and giving his beloved creations cancer and breathing problems...
For those of you who don't have a sense of humor, I was being sarcastic.
