Yes Kobe Bryant is the best in the NBA right now, and until he retires he will be. The most balanced ball player in the game right now, he dominates offense and his solid defense allows him to shut down the best of the best. Love him or hate him, Kobe Bryant is the best in the NBA.

Depends on your definition of 'best player.' I
If your definition of best player is: the amount of basketball skill then, yes, he is easily the best. He combines offense with defense in a way no other play has since Jordan. On offense, he can drive, make acrobatic layups, get to the foul line, make the long trey, hit the fadeaway jumper, and post up on the elbow or baseline.
On defense, he is an excellent man to man defender when he puts his mind to it, and can lockdown most guards in the league. His team defense has suffered in recent years because sometimes he gambles for the steal too much, and when he doesn't get it, the Lakers defense is left vulnerable. No doubt he got 1st Team All NBA Defense this year based not only on skill but also on reputation, but then again most guards/small forwards who have gotten on 1st Team Defense multiple times, have done the same.
If your definition of best player is: the player who will lead a team to the most wins, then no, he is not the best player. If you go by that definition, the best player would be Tim Duncan. He is an excellent post player, has a good face up game from fifteen feet and in, is a very good rebounder, and an extremely aware passer.
Obviously, being a big man, he can control the defensive end much more than any guard, and he does just that. Duncan is a great man to man defender but is also an extremely proficient help defender. If Parker's or Manu's man beats them, he is immediately in position to lock down the paint. And just to add, he's a fairly good shot blocker too. It's definitely unfair that he hasn't recieved a Defensive Player of the Year Award yet.
It's rare when you can say that a player has both the best individual skill and is the best winner. The only recent examples that come to mind are Shaq from 2000-2002 and Jordan from 91-98.
So, really the best player in the NBA comes down to your defintion: individual skill or team success.

That depends on what you consider best. He will never be the best center in the nba today or the best forward in the nba today and according to previous polling Steve Nash is noted as the most recent consecutive MVP title holder and that is not to discount Dirk's winning it last year. The problem is Kolbe is great but great players make other players great.

All around it's out of kobe & nash... Kobe is great but doesn't really make his team better like nash does & that's a big reason why he's never gonna be the league MVP...Offensively I'd say Melo...he's been leading scorer for the olympic team the past 2 years...and would of had the scoring title if it wasn't for fighting and his supension...Defensively he is right up there with raja bell...who I think is the best...but A.I is my favorite & don't sleep on my ***** either...NUGGETS ALL DAY...I'M OUT...PEACE!!!

Kobe is good, and he definitely doesn't suck, but Kobe is the worst excuse of a team captain/superstar. All these hype about Kobe has no merit and Kobe definitely hasn't lived up to it. Shooting 81 points is good, scoring 4 50 point games in a roll is good, but not getting your teammates involved sucks. Share the glory, Kobe. Kobe need to build team confidence. How else could the Lakers win if they don't believe in themselves? Just believe in Kobe? I don't think so.
Can Kobe ever live up to the statement, "I'm all that we need" ??? I don't think so. Kobe even now cries not getting enough help. I thought Kobe was all they needed! That's just pathetic.
But I think Kobe is maturing now, even though after that Brazil game Kobe still showed signs of immaturity by gunning for tournament MVP. But Kobe is, in general, maturing. He might surprise us by being a team player and building team chemistry.
Is Kobe the best? Statistically, Manu Ginobili is better than Kobe after weighing per minute. Is Kobe making an impact for his team? Not anymore than Tim Duncan, Steve Nash, or Dirk Nowitzki does! Heck, Baron Davis helped his team winning. Kobe just wash his hand off for having a team without chemistry. I wonder why... That's certainly not MVP, when a player doesn't even value the team.

Yes! Over the past 3 seasons, he is averaging 32 pts per game and he is always on the all NBA defensive teams, not to mention, where would the lakers be without him. You may not like him, but you cannot deny his game. As well as T-mac stays hurt to much, and he is not as good of shooter.

Ballhog? DID you watch the FIBA final? He is the best player right now. He has to be a ballhog with the Lakers, he doesn't when he is surrounded by talent. Believe me, i hate saying it and I am a Spurs fan but he is.
