This quadratic equation is already in the so-called
standard form ax^2 + bx + c = 0
with a = 3 b = -t c = r

The quadratic formula indicates two solutions:

x = [ t + sqrt(t^2 - 12r) ] / 6

and

x = [ t - sqrt(t^2 - 12r) ] / 6
