MSNBC and a number of consumer advocy organizations havereported (blown the whistle) on this. Under Bush, the ConsumerProducts Safety Commission has been gutted. There is one (count them : "1") inspector in the entire United States to check children'stoys being imported from other countries.

One more example of the Bush administration's disregard for the interests of the Amrican people--pandering to special interests--in this case with little kids as the victims.

Well, whos responsible to decide which company is making their goods? Well american companies are the first to seek cheaper market and low regulations in order to produced their goods, so they should be held accountable for deciding to go that route!! China has lax rules and its why those businesses have settled there, so why take the Chinese guilty of something that greeds and market forces have choosen as their panacea?
Our companies have peoples there, that supervised productions, so they should be capable to make their own controls, what happen now, is about corporate indifference toward their customers, and use this to trow leverage against China... Well this thing is once again all politically motivated... For a change...

The greedy corporations that manufacture these inferior goods would rather outsource manufacturing to China in order to make higher profits, due to the low labor costs.

Outsourcing also avoids what few US regulations we have left, after Bush--worker safety regulations and manufacturing regulations geared to consumer safety. The manufacturers are lax and don’t institute sufficient quality control standards because it is all about saving on costs and getting higher profits.
