I have been to many countries, and I would say the USA could learn a lot from the Netherlands or Denmark. They are tolerant and pragmatic and don't try to solve problems by throwing WORDS at them ('just say no' for example). They are prosperous and peaceful countries, and the people have a sense of humor.

First, I assume that you're using the strawman definition of 'liberal'..the all purpose pejoritive noun used by the right wing radio bozos to dump on anyone not them. So we can eliminate this non-existant 'liberal' critter from the discussion. For democrats the only emblem is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA....the one with LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL! The one where the BILL OF RIGHTS is not only honored, but defended...yes...even for those out of favor. Everybody accused of a crime gets the full protection of the law...that includes any 'terrorists' that happen to fall into the hands of law enforcement. It includes gays and women and black people and people that don't speak english. Everyones civil rights are protected. Democrats want a country where 'our' government actually protects our borders...'our' government should protect the 'envirionment'....our government should protect the livelyhoods of the american wage-earner even if it costs the trans-national corporations a few bucks. We want the old and the young and the lame and the mentally ill protected. We want every American to have a good education right up through the university level. We want every American to have health INSURANCE. We want a 21st century energy policy that only includes the barest amount of fossil fuels. We want an end to the BushWar for Oil in the middle east and a real effort to deal with the Terror Inc. Mafia and last, we'd like an end to the 'red state/blue state' BS.....bring back the UNITED STATES! And 'ya know what, Cookie? I'll be that's what everyone wants! No kiddin'!

Here's Webster's definitions:
LIBERALISM: "a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of man, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for political and civil liberties."
CONSERVATISM: "a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions and preferring gradual development to abrupt change."
I don't know a liberal who doesn't want social stability; nor do I know a conservative who doesn't believe in the essential goodness of man. So - as I see it - there must be some "liberalism" and "conservatism" in ALL of us!!!!
It's time to stop using phony labels (especially when most people who use them don't even have a clue as to their definitions) that only serve to divide this great nation. Take a break from the propagandists like Rush Limbaugh and Al Franken, and start thinking for yourself. It's time to grow up and begin unifying Americans so that we all see an "emblem of.....ideals" as something that will make our country stronger, instead of weakening it through such hate-filled, biased, bigoted Pabulum.
Put aside all the childish name-calling, the juvenile insults, the immature blabber. Grow up for God's sake - America needs your intelligence, maturity, ideas, and energy.
Instead of sitting at the computer badgering others, it's time to get off the couch, put down the remote and start taking our country back from the "Republicrats" who have caused this vulgar division among us just because we're not grown-up enough to think for ourselves. -RKO- 09/05/07

I'd like to see us take a step towards Canada's ways.
(Only real dingalings think that means a Lib/Dem like me would like Cuba or China. Such heavy military control of the state is a Rt.Wing Republican ideal)
I'd like a cross between the USA, Canada, Holland, today's Germany, Switzerland, and Costa Rica.

The USA of course!
Interesting answers by phony conservatives though. Admitting they want to be more like Cuba and China. Their Fascist ideals are showing.

I wan't our country to be more like Sweden, France, and Norway. Socialized living, lots of taxes, less focus on capitalism, great quality of life. These are just several things from these countries that I would love to see America adopt.

I am no liberal/democrat, but I would like to see us get back to most of our traditional values circa 1940's/1950's. Enough with all this apologists, accomodating every other culture except our own national suicide path the liberals and socialists have brought before us over the last 30+ years!
My guess is most liberals would like us to be more like Western European countries or Canada.
