don't even consider bankruptcy. you can get out of debt by slowly paying it off by yourself.
$65,000 or more in debt or huge medical bills is why people file for bankruptcy. student loans are not dischargeable in a bankruptcy.

Just to add to the answer given neither are Federal Tax Debts discharged.

there is no set amount of debt you need to have to file bankruptcy.
