it's hard to remember, but above all else - SHE IS A KID.
i'd love to see what would be the result if the news media followed you around and saw what you said every day - or any one of us for that matter.
who among us has not been gracious or perfect in what we say?
tell you what, when i was her age, i was an IDIOT, and said plenty of stupid things.
not only that, but how many times will we hear pro baseball and football players say basically that anything short of a championship season is a failure.
and we admire those guys - never have i heard anyone say anything bad about guys with that attitude.
love of the game and sportsmanship is just not admired in our culture - which is too damned bad.
her attitude is hardly anything to be shocked at or to marvel at.
after her whole life of being told that losing sucks - she thinks losing sucks.
what a shocker.
only AFTER we expect ALL of our athletes to embrace good sportmanship and manners should serena be held to some high standard.
until then, those of you who criticize her are just dreamers...

You guys are so off.
Spend 3 months training your but off, play in a match that last 1 hour, make a few mistakes that give the edge to your competetor (maybe one you dont like) THEN
have the national media waiting to blast you after the match.
This is between Serena Williams and Jestine Henin.
You people ever hear of mind games? Getting an edge on your opponent? The only difference between trash talk in baseball, baskeball, and football is that there isnt a national media transcripting everything being said.
Like no one here ever cursed or complained about getting shafted on a test.

She's been pushed since childhood to think that she has no place except as a champion and anything that doesn't happen it's some outside force. The game itself and all the different facets that surround it are totally meaningless it's just her "right" to win.
It's just general poor sportsmanship. I hate to generalize but American athletes in so many cases seem to take the cake in this regard.
So many of these spoiled athletes, they're only in it for the glamour. They pull out of all the smaller events that fans have already purchased tickets for citing any rediculous reason they can come up with and just want the have their names on the big trophies.

Today's athletes are grossly overpaid. Tiger Woods might have a billion dollar pension! That is obscene. Anyway, since they are so overpaid for playing a game, I don't think today's athletes respect their sport, their opponents or their fans.

More sour grapes. She has no class. This was my stance even before this tournament. It's always someone else's fault.
