Ahh, let me tell you. Back in '96, I bought a '92 Chevy Beretta. I was all of 19 years old at the time, and on my own-- so I didn't have anyone to help me out, I guess. I bought the car because I loved the COLOR. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Within the first year I'd put $1,000 in repairs (all mechanical) into the piece of crap, and at the end of year two, I had to put in another $3,000 for engine repairs (one example: All four motor mounts broke. Twice.) TO THIS DAY, I will NOT buy another GM product. And anyone who asks me, "Why don't you buy American?! Why do you drive a Honda?!"... I will sit them down, and they will hear the story of the Beretta.

You can sue, but you will likely lose. Whenever you buy a car 'as-is' it is the responsibility of the buyer to have the car inspected before you buy it. You wouldn't buy a home without an inspection, would you? Why would you do it with a car? What crime was committed to warrant a police report? Did you even call the seller after it broke down? I bet the officers had a good laugh after you left. There is nothing you can do about this and going to court is just going to cost you more money and time. The only way you could possibly win this is if the person selling the vehicle listed some sort of implied or written guarantee or warranty in the craigslist ad and they refused to honor it. My guess that this is not the case. Expensive lesson learned.

well, technically I guess it wasn't a lemon, but I bought an '89 Dodge Shadow in '92 and apparently after 3-4 years everything in those cars fall apart, so after having it for less than a year I had to start replacing things and basically rebuilt the darn thing by the time the loan was paid off

That would be my current car. It left us stranded in the middle of nowhere in South Dakota in the middle of the night, us and the kids, and it sucked! lol My parents had to come rescue us. It was on the way home from our summer vacation 2 years ago. It was a great vaca until then! They picked up a U-Haul car trailer thingy and pulled us home. We ended up having to put a new engine in it, and it wasn't even paid for yet. But the good thing is I paid the damn thing off this year!!! First car I've ever paid off before trading. My first car that I had a loan on, I had one payment left and the transmission went out. See? This is my life! lol

That was a long time ago...it was my first car when I was 16,bought it with my own $(from the previous owner, not a dealer). It was a 1979 Audi station wagon, that had a lightswitch to turn on the heater! Needless to say, a HUGE mistake!! =D
