Emos started out as people that were depressed and self harming - then it moved to more of a preference of fashion and music. Now Emos tend to wear dark clothes, have hair that covers half the face, tend to wear legging-like jeans, and as far as I know they like sort of, moby, coldplay style music. I had a couple of Emo mates in college - we called them the Suicide Squad... it was a joke of course but I know of two of them that were self harming, I guess more Emos then anyone else does self harm, but not all of them.

An Emo is a fashion statement, like being a chav but different. Its being different (like all the other emo's) i guess when i was young it was 'trendy 'or 'alternative' and in days gone by 'mods' and 'rockers' just a way of showing which 'tribe' you belong to, and a way for teenagers to work out who they are and what they're gonna be..........

I KNOW an emo is someone who is very emotional and some of them are on the verge of committing suicide so nobody ever leave a razor lying out in the open where they can see it.
