That is a good price and one thing you want to purchase with that is the Accidental Damage Plan, the reason being is that if you accidental drop it, spill something in it unintentionally or the screen gets damaged you will have that as a back up plan. Screens accidentally broken are not covered under the manufacturers warranty. Yes this unit is great for your schooling and at home.

This is not a bad computer. It has two 160 GB hard drives. (They are not RAID, but you don't need that anyway.) The cache is small and the hard drives could be a faster, but for your purposes I don't think that it will matter. It has plenty of memory, 2 gigs. If you have less than 1 gig, Vista makes the system run very poorly. You also have an internal wireless card. (Take advantage of the free internet on campus!) Also, you have a 17" Widescreen, which is a nice display.

For basic school work and media functions, this is a nice laptop. If you decide that you want to get into performance games (IE: Oblivion, not referring to Solitaire) then you would want to get something better. But for you, since you are looking for something for schoolwork, then this will probably take you through your entire college career.

Good luck!

yeah, that's a whole lot of reading... that computer should do for college work (though it kind of depends on what kind of work is being done)... if your writing papers and doing research online, it should be totally fine...

actually, after further reading... it's a pretty good computer...
