would it be appropriate to use bar chart or histograms to display results from self-report measures ie numerical data from questionaire lists, when there are many comparisons to be made? if not what could be used?

For a psychological experiment, if you are going to present your findings to anyone outside of the psychology community, the more charts you have, the better your presentation will be. To those schooled in the field of psychology, only the statistical results will matter. Do you know how boring those things are? Put you out quicker than a cup of hot cocoa!

Um - trying to visualise it - can you give us some idea of the types of comparisons you mean?
Not sure comparisons fit into charts alongside measurements so I can't quite see what you are trying to do.
Also not entirely sure why this is in the category it is!
