Many cheap power supplies are marked 550W. But in truth, that is just peak power and actual continuous rating is just 400-450W. Then, older models have weak +12 rail rail, 18 amps or lower. So you really need to take a look if your 550W is a cheapo or a good one with DUAL +12V rail. Check out its sticker label. My 550 watter has 18/17 amps on the +12V1/+12V2 rails, BUT for that monster card, I would be more comfortable w/ a cooler running 650 watter with TRIPLE +12V rails.

The 8800 Ultra OC could draw up to almost 15 amps on the +12V rail. Processor, fans and drive motors also draw from the +12V rail that is why you need 30 amperes at least, for stable operation.

THATS THE MINIMUM requirement id go with 650w but it depends what kind of system you have too , i have the same card , but like the other person said , on the side of your psu there should be a sticker with +5v +3.3v ..+12v look under 12v and itll show you the amps on that rail 28a 30a 36a whatever it is .. good luck,,, dont go under the required amps tho or youll have problems

On the side of the powersupply (you'll have to open the case to see), it should have a table. Read the 12V+ rail and see if it is more than 30. If yes, you can run the video card.

12v is volts 30A is the amps. the 12v rail or output is for the motherboard including the video card.

VxA=W so volts times amps equals watts, so you would add the watts for each rail or output to get your 550w

anyway if your card recommends 400w and you have 55w your fine
