Last week my administrator gave me 5Mb of server space. I have developed this application that communicates to each other, using a flat file. I was hoping that i could host this flat file on the active server and get the program to directly access the server space and change the flat file from there. This would allow me to use my application over the net. Because I'm using a dinosaur language QB to program this, the server must be accessed from CMD, using batch scripting. Also the application must have access to the server not the user using the application. I can tell u that the server is http, ftp, and webdev compatible.

I don't understand why you are using such an antiquated development language. I'm assuming that you are using an antiquated Windows operating system based on the fact that you are using QB.

I suggest that you run the system with Windows XP SP2 Professional (install the IIS option) minimum and upgrade your database to Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 (a free download). You can also download a free version of Microsoft C# Express 2005 for server side programming.

If you don't want to upgrade the OS or spend the money, you can always patition your disk and install one of the many flavors of Linux (Ubuntu is fun) and install free MySQL and free PHP.

I think you might have a chance to build some marketable skills if you upgrade your environment. There is no reason to work from CMD.

A server complicated force is intense-overall performance equipment, and expenditures far extra too. in case you're a gamer this may be a thank you to circulate. Get a SCSI controller and hit upon a Seagate Barracuda 10,000rpm server force, in the main important length you will hit upon. I assure you isn't disappointed by using it!
