where are you? if you are in sydney australia then oh heck yeah its poisonous go to a doctor immediately!

if you are just in north america.. odds are it is a relatively harmless spider if it starts swelling up too much or causing excessive pain then go to a doctor otherwise just leave it and he should be fine.

if it was a poisonous spider you would have known about it pretty quick

No, they are venomous. They have to bite you to caused problems. Eating them will do you no harm. There are many different funnelweb spiders, the most dangerous is atrax robustus, the Sydney Funnelweb. If your friend has been bitten, instead of wasting time asking here, you should have taken your friend to the hospital by now. An anti-venom for funnelweb bites is available.

If your friend is not seriously ill or dead by now, I wouldn't worry too much.
