My dad said no part of schooling, including college were included in the best years of his life. I'm less than 2 years from going to college. Anyway, I believe he said getting married and having a son, ME!, were the best days of his life. :) hope that helps!!

When I was in high school and heard people refer to it as "the best years of your life," it was like a knife in my gut. I thought, "This is IT? It can't be!" High school was the worst period in my life. The ones who think high school is the best, are often the washed up has beens ten years later. For me, life got 100 times better as soon as high school was over. The army, then college were some great years for me.

People tend to remember the best things in the past then the worst. I remember once my dad talking about how in high school he played ball, and that he did not have so many cares in the world. Later, after reading a journal he gave me and talking more with him, I learned that it was not that he did not have a care in the world, he just ignored them. When Kennedy got shot he did not know the importance, when the Vietnam War ended he was still 10. When Nixon left office he was 14, and more concerned with football then world politics. He did not worry about money because his parents gave it to him, and if he did not get it, he was just angry at them or at the prices. Today if he is worried about money its his fault and the banks, politics worries him because he does not fully understand everything that is involved and therefor follows the slogans of politicians.

Adults too could live in isolated bliss: just be concerned with sports and material things. And too they could act immature: if all the adults acted immature, who would tell them to grow up?

But thats the thing, eventually something made them grow up, or they went and had credit problems or they got a job they did not like. And then, instead of remembering how in high school they were so sad when they did not make prom king or queen, how they were laughed at that one time at lunch or how they flunked a test, they remember just that they ran for prom king or queen, how they laughed at a class jester or how they did well on a test.

What I am getting at is that the people who say that high school is the best time of your life most likely have selective memories. And/or they did not care/know about the politics of the world. They were not concerned with making money or finding a place in the world, likely out of ignorance. Its not that these are the best years of your life: its that they made them the best years of theirs, and they can't place themselves accurately in that reality anymore.

Being in college now, I can tell you that its both better and worse than high school.
Its better because I get up every morning and do not have to listen to my moms annoying voice screeching at me to get up. I do not have to eat just whats on the dinner table, I can go out. I scheduled my own classes, do my homework without the annoying drawback of having to mow the lawn or do some lame sports or event I did not want to do. My teachers are far more respectful: where as before if I had a question or an objection they just responded "I am the teacher and this is the way it works," my professors are genuinely interested in a debate over a topic and willing to explain things. And also, they don't attempt to hold my hand: if I want to do my own work without some annoying commentary, they let me. And I don't stay after class for help: I call an schedule an appointment for their office hours.

But there are drawbacks too. The beds at my campus suck, I have to do my own laundry, clean my own room (those last two are actually somethings I'd rather do myself anyway, but I can see how it'd annoy other people). I cannot play my music as loud as I want to, otherwise I can get kicked out (I only could get grounded at home)(not that I play it loud anyway, but other people have already got in trouble with the Housing Staff over it).

Also, and this can really get some people, I have to share a room now where as before, I had a bedroom to myself. I prefer it because otherwise I'd pay double the normal rate for a room to myself, so this is ok considering my roommate is not bad.

Most people have their head in the clouds to much, thats why they say things like "thats the way its always been and always will be," or "these are the best years of your life." How they felt then, what they knew then, and the way things worked then all seem trivial or as they say "a lifetime away." It's a combination of nostalgia, ignorance, and being unprepared for life when they were younger.

I'm not in college, but I'll say that college is the best years of your life. You are alot closer on what you choose your career to be. High school....

I liked college better. Honestly, I wouldn't want to be back in HS now, the teen years are actually kind of stressful. The ones who say they're the best years of your life have forgotten having to live under the watchful eye of the peer police, and just think of the bigger responsibilities they have now (paying for homes etc.). My HS years were okay, but nothing I'd want to re-live.

the say that because college is a time when you can get away from your parents and be your own person. you don't usually have the pressures of an adult life yet and you can have lots of fun without being too responsible.......also you are surrounded by others who are in this stage

In high school you don't have very many responsibilities and that freedom is the best and unless you are fabulously wealthy, and I am guessing you are not, then you will never have it that good again.
