When you exhale you give the plant Carbon Dioxide. Oxygen is to us, as Carbon dioxide is to a plant. It is essential to growth.

When you play that soft music the vibrations are softer and less invasive to the plant's system. The harder and more invasive the vibrations the more the plant is damaged.

When you are talking to them you also notice the small things wrong with them just like someone said before and as a result the plants are better cared for.

There is also a long page on Wikipedea:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plant_perception_%28paranormal%29

this discusses the paranormal side to what people often see as the plant "communicating" with them. Often people attribute human capabilities with plants and this link discusses it.

Hope this helps

There is an old saying among farmers, that "the best ______ (fill the blank with insecticide, fungicide, fertilizer, etc.) is the farmers' shadow". The saying means that when the farmer is looking at his crops closely, he takes better care of his plants. I can assure you that farmers talk to their crops.
So, whether you talk to the plants out loud or not, if you are taking the time to be interested in a plant, it will usually grow better because you notice when the plant needs water, fertilizer, or something else.
There is another old saying, however, that "I killed my plant with kindness". This is usually said when someone over waters, over fertilizes, etc.. So maybe you have to say the right things to a plant when you talk to it :) .

There have been studies done and its been established that it is true. Also that saying positive things to the plant rather than negative helps it grow better. I would guess because its getting positive energy as scientifically there's no reason for it. Maybe people subconciously take better care of plants they talk to than ones they don't.

some folks will think I'm 'round the bend, but.... touch is important, I think, to a plant.... unless it is a tree, standing alone in the middle of a field, most plants get brushed by other plants as they grow, since one is beside the other.... even if it's a weed.... so, I move branches, touch leaves, turn them over, bump the whole plant as I'm talking to it and I find that mine grow just dandy ... I think if a plant is left alone, surrounded by bare space and empty soil, it's lonely... nothing is touching it when the breeze blows... and it doesn't grow as well... I have a chaos/cottage garden and my stuff is quite happy.....ok, ok... I'm weird.... it's expected at my age.... LOL!

Hello there,

On Myth Busters they played classical music and hardcore music to plants along with other stimuli.. Check it out. But I do believe they are healthier if you touch and talk softly to them..

Probably, because we exhale carbon dioxide when we talk and the plants use that for photosynthesis.

plants are living creatures too, it responds to the stimulus, plants breath like people, taking in your exhaled carbon dioxide, as you inhale their exhaled nitrogen,

Are you sure they do?

Perhaps it is the extra time you spend talking to them allows you to look them over for problems, dust their leaves, turn them so they get sun evenly.

Perhaps it is the extra carbon dioxide you are breathing all over them while you talk.

Because plants are people too. Actually no one believes me that this happens but it does. You can sing to them or just talk to them or even think at them. It all works. Now someone is going to say some scientific claptrap about why but you and I know it just works.
