Hi Kaysie - You could get your dad in a little bit of trouble if you do adjust the mileage on the vehicle. It's actually a punisheable offense with fines, title/registration denial, etc.
Sorry - My advice - Please don't mess with it because you are violating federal and state statutes!
Also - Can you give your Dad a brake (pun intended) and give him some credit?- He already knows something is up and messing with the mileage on the car probably will not stop him from finding out. You might consider that if he is the type of guy that would get upset because his baby girl is off running around the country without telling her parents where she is... well he sounds pretty stand up to me. He loves you and worries and wants you to make good decisions.
Part of growing up is learning there are limitations to the "fun" sometimes and that the feelings of the people we love are more important than what we want to do at that particular moment. Yes, it's your life, you're growing up, becoming independent, but try and look at it from your folks perspective.
Also - Part of growing up is accepting responsibility for your actions and not trying to find the easy way out. You broke the rules. Now be a woman and own it.
If anything happened to you - anything while you were off in California without them knowing they would never forgive themselves and it would likely crush them forever.

face it-you are screwed!
There is NO WAY to do it on any vehicle since (I think) the late 80's or so...because they have a gear inside built to make the numbers go out of alignment if you try. Hooking the cable to a drill and running it backwards was an old story about how to do it...so the gearing was changed and they still will ADD mileage.
Yes, it is against federal law to do it-and shops have been shut down that get caught. Usually they 'replace' the odometer with one from another vehicle with lower mileage. Better start figuring out how to explain it...and take your medicine when dad hits the roof! Plan on walking for a long time or getting your bike out of the cellar-you may need it!

There are several ways of doing that, but ALL are illegal, for advice on the subject you could google it. Remember, anything's possible, but the easiest route by far is just owning up to it.

Nope--they are sealed units and tampering is illegal--you can go to jail--silly as it sounds--it is a FEDERAL crime to open the unit.

I suggest you visit your nearest prison and ask some people inside how it's done ... and also what happens when you are caught.
