Of that, I am not sure.

I'll tell you this; the Iraq War will make me doubt whatever the government tells me for a long time about wars/terrorists/WMD/etc.

We're "in" Iraq for three really lame reasons:
1. The Bush family had a personal vendetta against Saddam Hussein ever since the days of Desert Storm when George H.W. Bush was criticized, ridiculed and humiliated for not 'finishing the job' and ousting Hussein at that time;
2. Dick Cheney and his Exxon-Mobil buddies want all that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands so they can get richer and richer and richer feeding America's addiction to cheap, easily-accessible OIL instead of implementing new alternative-energy programs in this country;
3. Ever since World War II, the giant U.S. military-industrial complex [which Eisenhower warned us about] realized how profitable 'war' could be. So, all the politicians were bought up, pricey lobbyists were hired, and special interest groups were formed to promote and encourage more 'war'. Thus, the U.S. became entangled in the Korean Conflict; the Cuban Missile Crisis; the Cold War; Vietnam and Desert Storm - all so that corporations like McDonnell-Douglass, Lockheed-Martin and Sikorsky could rape American taxpayers to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars. Add to that the two 'newcomers' to the government's war trough: the Carlyle Group and Halliburton BOTH have direct ties to the Bush-Cheney White House and had to get their fair share of the TRILLION DOLLAR runaway 'war' spending.
True, the Bush administration lied to Congress, hoodwinked the American people, and conned our valiant U.S. troops into believing there were 'weapons of mass destruction' in Iraq, and we had an honorable purpose for attacking another sovereign nation that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the United States.
True, Saddam Hussein is dead, which was the one reason George W. Bush was selected to be President - so he could 'settle the score'.
True, Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11, but it provided the emotional impact that allowed Bush to 'declare war' on Iraq without any justification, while Congress stood by and watched him run rip shod over our Constitution.
True, binLaden might be the 'real enemy', but we can't really be certain of that. Remember that George H.W. Bush joined the Carlyle Group shortly after he left the White House. Remember that several prominent Saudi Arabian families were investors in the Carlyle Group, including a family (who invested $2.5 million) by the name of binLaden.
Remember that on 9-11 - when all other air traffic was grounded - these Saudi families were flown out of the country on government jets (after attending a Carlyle Group investors' meeting in Washington, DC).
Remember that once the emotional furor died down, George W. Bush publicly proclaimed that he didn't know - or care - where binLaden was, and that binLaden was 'no longer a priority'.
So, who's to say who the real 'enemy' is?? Our government has lied to us hundreds of times before (U-2 spy planes over U.S.S.R.; U.S. battleships attacked in the Gulf of Tonkin; Watergate; IranContra, etc., etc.).
Why are we "in" Iraq? Simple: OIL and WAR PROFITEERING at any cost so that a handful of wealthy elitists, industrialists and power brokers can become wealthier and more powerful. May God damn them all. May God bless our troops. -RKO- 09./05/07

Poor cultural understanding...

War strategists thought the Iraqis would be able to just come together and create a new democracy after the invasion. They could not.
It's not like East Germany over there.
