Does anyone know where i can find stats on materialism in americans?

im writing a paper explaining why i think we as americans are too materialistic. having trouble finding stats.

If I were you, I'd just head out to the nearest shopping mall and talk to some sales people and cashiers. And maybe sit on a bench and count different shopping bags.
