Personally, I think if you need to "sample" someone else's music, you are not talented. Write your own!!!

RoVale, I wholeheartedly agree. It's sad, because the original is a masterpiece, and usually the new song is just a way for the artist to make a few bucks off a mediocre song

I don't like it. What especially bothers me is when I hear younger people who never heard the original songs say that it's something new and original when in actuality, it isn't. What's worse is when they call that sample by something else rather than by the original song.

I wouldn't let it bother me. It depends on how you use the music.

But I don't see the point of it. If you like the song, then cover it, not sample it. Some artists use the sampling, but it wouldn't make sense. One point: Gym Class Heroes' "Cupid's Chokehold"

"Take a look at my girlfriend,
She's the only one I got,
Not much of a girlfriend,
I never seem to get a lot..."

They probably like the beat, but wanted to twist the song around. It doesn't make sense....but it's not about talent. It's about listening to what you want to hear. And most likely, when an artist samples, the old song becomes more popular. You'd probably think that's annoying because now an old song becomes more mainstream-ish, but that's how it works.
