Everyone knows what happened this past weekend. I was curious to see who thinks there are a decent number of teams in I-AA that could compete with some of the top 50 I-A teams. How many I-AA teams could do this? Name some examples.

I think about 10 could compete but the top 3 that could win some games would be
Appalachian State
UMass
Montana

Plenty of I-AA teams could compete with I-A teams. They may perform well against some of the smaller schools from our conferences and some of them may even give big schools a tough time, but their records would be laughable at the end of the year. I think I-AA falls off after App St. I mean, do you think those Minutemen would give anyone a run for their money? (That's UMASS by the way, who lost to App. St. last year in the championship game).

If you would have asked this question 10 years ago, i would have named Marshall and Youngstown State for sure.
But both teams have jumped to division 1A in the past 10 yrs.
Now add Appilachian State to that list of teams. A champion is a champion in any division.! Scheduling 1AA teams is one thing, but scheduling the best of the second best is a totally different stroy.........ask MICHIGAN!

well i guess the game that michigan lost to Appilachian state shows that anybody can beat anyone soo i think any 1-AA team can beat a 1-A team if they want it bad enough

Quite a few. Check out the Sagarin ratings, they rate all 1A and 1AA teams together.

Several, because many 1-A teams are really bad.
