Why do people answer questions for free?

i know what ur gonna say "the same reason u do" but i dont really have a reason.i just do it when i need some new idea in my head cus i feel stupid if i dont read or learn anything in a day...anyways

information shouldn't be free...right?

possible reasons for answering are addiction to internet, bored, or my reason,..or make time go fast at work... can u find any other, can u tell me ur reason for answering this question right now?

Your self-answered premises are invalid for many reasons.

First of all, all information should be free, except, of course, for business (e.g., the "secret" recipe) or government (i.e., security) reasons, et al. Nobody should have to pay for information, especially when it is so readily available via libraries, the internet, teachers, parents, etc. It's only in poorer areas and nations where the price of ignorance is their freedom to make intelligent choices (previous USA elections, aside!), and, thus, be kept in figurative darkness. (but, I digress . . . !) ;)

Secondly, it may not have anything to do with boredom (except for those "trolls" who use foul language or ask questions designed solely to incite virtual riots, etc, and, of whom, clearly, have nothing better to do with their time). Of course, some people enjoy playing the role of the know-it-all (I can't imagine what that's like!). ;)

Thirdly, if the "asker" selects an answer as "best", then that person gets 10 points, not 2 (refer to the link, below).

Fourthly, what difference does it make whether people answer questions for free? If it's free, then you are "free" to ponder and explore the merits of the answer without regret. But, if you have to pay for it, then you may never know whether the answer was "right", and you will regret having paid for it! Some of the best things in life are free! It's up to you to decide which answers are right! Regardless, enjoy them, even if they're wrong! At least they took the time to respond. . . for free!!! :)

People answer because of what they know that they wanted to share plus helping others. Points is just an added thing to make something worthwhile and much more enjoyable.Plus it gives pleasure to people that they are helping others while they gain points and leveling.

i enjoy answering questions because I like trying to help people. i would like to be a counselor, or something like it, so that should show you that i love listening to people's problems and trying to come up with a solution. i think a lot of people probably answer questions for the same reason i do. or maybe they do it (like you said) because they are addicted or bored. i just hope that most people do it because they like to try to help people :)
