Talk with the teacher and see what she/he can do to make it easier for your child. I teach first grade in a school where the kids to NOT get the services they are supposed to get either. It is very frustrating for the teachers, the student, and the parents. Try and just work with your child for now, and maybe talk to the principal and see if she/he can push the process along a bit.

First off, the person who said "ADD doesn't exsist " there IS such a thing called ADD, many people suffer from it, including me . I had a hard time learning and concentrating in school, and you must be pretty ignorant to think it doesn't exsist . Anyways, I would probably consult the teachers who specialize with his IEP, even if he is in grade 2 it's better to start young and just handle the problem . I'm not to sure if he's too young to go on any medication, but that really helps .
I wouldn't consider home school, maybe as a last resort, but i think it's healthy for a child to be social and amoung kids his own age . If you could get him a private tutor, that would probably help a lot .

Let me first say that I don't have kids. I'm only going by what my sister had told me about my nephew was that age. Although he didn't have ADD, he did have difficult learning. It could be a few things.
1) It's probably a very different situation and he's still adjusting.
2) Maybe there are problems with kids at school. Teasing etc.
3) Maybe even just getting corrected by the teacher (even in a polite way) my disturb him if it's done in front of the class.

My suggestions: Talk to him and try to get to what bothering him. Also talk to his teacher and see if there is anything going on that he/she may have noticed.

possibly considering homeschooling but if that doesn't work reassure him and tell him it is not so bad, if you still have difficulties step in and talk to his teacher(s)

There's no such thing as ADD. Talk to the teachers, maybe he gets picked on.
