The only way I'll believe that bird poop caused the bridge to collapse is if they made the bridge of chewed gum and toothpicks.
In which case a whole LOT of people are guilty of fraud and mismanagement, because it cost a lot more to build and maintain than that.
Stop the politicians and contractors from CHEATING--build 'em the way they used to, and they'll last nearly FOREVER!

Old structure. And get used to those words. In almost every place in this country in the last fifty years, people let their politicians distract them with garbage like sports stadiums while the infrastructure has been overlooked. The bridge was, if not the first, a sure sign that the aging infrastructure is worthy of our attention. Whether we pay attention, or go for more sports stadiums... well, that's the big question now, isn't it?

I have thought about this for a long time, and the only thing I can think of is if they don't know what made the bridge collapse, then they should say so, not make up a lame excuse.

NO that stuff is really toxic and can start to deteriorate almost all types of metal ...especially under the bridge where it never got rained on .....
leave some bird poop on your car for a few weeks and see what it will do , if you think its far fetched ~!

Bird guana is VERY acidic. Enough of it could
possibly cause some damage to one critical
bolt or nut. This could cause a domino effect
that would cause the bridge to collapse.
It does seem to require the "golden bullet"
effect.

Pigeon waste could cause rusting and other erosion of steel and other metal surfaces. It's not far-fetched. It's metallurgical science.

It's only one of the reasons - but it's true. The poop contributes to corrosion of the metal.
