Do you ever find yourself at a loss for words? Are you a good communicator?

Yes I do, and I got it from being intelligent (well, I am!) and from reading a lot.

I can personally credit my Nancy Drew books in particular - I first heard of lemurs and sleuths there. Trixie Belden was cool too, but she wasn't known for her bulging brain like Nancy was.

These are the ND books from the 70's. The next generation of them probably wasn't as educational.

In spite of that, I still sometimes suffer from aphasia and am floundering around for the right word. I often rely on words like "thingy."

I would say I do have a big vocabulary, I attained it by reading and looking up the words I didn't know, and then using them on a regular basis to maintain it. No, I never find myself at a loss for words and I am a good communicator.

I do have a very large vocabulary. My friends call me the walking dictionary. Every time I hear a word I find out what it means then file it for future reference. Some times I find myself at a loss for words when I'm trying to speak to someone with a limited vocabulary because they really don't know what I'm talking about and I can't think of the dumbed down version of the idea I'm trying to convey. I've been told that I communicate very well, when I'm talking to my intellectual equals. Then of course there's the time I'm talking to my ex and he says he can't understand a thing I'm saying lol.

I think I have a pretty good vocabulary. The best way to develop and maintain your vocabulary is by reading, and I don't mean reading the semi-literate drivel you'll find here and on other web sites. I'm talking about real books, whether they're novels or nonfiction.

mine is better than most people that i meet, and one reason why is because i read alot. also, as dorky as it sounds, i always do the vocabulary quiz in reader's digest, and anytime i had to write a paper, would go to a lot of effort to find new words to use from the thesaurus...they do say that strong verbal skills are the single greatest indicator of intelligence

I'm pretty good with words. People always ask me to write letters and resumes for them, and I actually wrote a successful appeal letter to Yahoo! after they suspended my Yahoo! Answers account.

I just use multiple dictionaries and then use a word in a sentence a couple times to make sure I understand it.

not really
I read, read, read, and watch TV. Whatever word that comes up that I don't understand, I write it down on a list and look it up in a dictionary later.
