I am assuming you are asking about a concealed weapons permit. First off, you have to determine whether or not you live in a state that allows such a thing. Most of them do fortunately.
Go to your local Sheriff's office website. They normally control the CCW (Carrying Concealed Weapons) permits. They will give you their particulars. Some places , if you are lucky, they do it on the spot; others take up to a month or so. It's no big deal unless you have been convicted of either a felony or any domestic violence offense. Odds are you will have to fill out an application listing chartacter references and a history of any criminal offenses such as traffic tickets. They are trying to see if you will lie to them. They will know because they will do a background check! You will then return it to the county Sheriff's office and the pay a small fee of around $25. Some states/counties often require you to show proof of handgun training in one form or another, so be prepared.
One day you will get a phone call informing you of the status of your permit and hopefully get to pick up your paperwork stating that you have a permit.
Normally, you have to re-certify every year to keep the permit.

It is highly dependent on the state you live in.
In Texas, for example, one does not require a license to own a gun. Further, long arms can be openly transported in your vehicle. What you do have to have a license for is if you want to carry a concealed weapon in public. For this you are required to take a training class and pass a proficiency test. The license is good for 5 years, at which time you have to re-take the class and practical shooting test.
OTOH, in other places like New York City it is darned near impossible to get a gun license.
Hmmmm... I wonder why the violent crime rate is lower in most major Texas cities than it is in New York City?
--- Edit ---
Sorry, I forgot to mention that you must be of legal age, pass a background check, and not have any mental health issues or criminal convicitons that preclude you from owning a firearm.

It depends on what kind of gun. if you want a cocealed weapons permit for a pistol or something, then you need to take a hunter safety course. if you want to just buy a gun, all you need is an ID to show the store you're buying it from so they can do a backround check. also you need to fill out a form answering questions like, "are you an illegal immegrant", ect. They will give you the form.

I live in Texas, and we can get a concealed handgun license. You just need to have a background check and take a safety class. Basically, anyone with half a brain and a clean criminal record can legally carry a concealed gun in Texas. Gad I love this state. I'm a short skinny dude, but some would-be mugger has a big surprise waiting for him when he tries to jack my new Infiniti! Wuahahahahah

What do you mean by gun license? To buy? Sell? Transport? Carry? Manufacture? Full auto? Military grade?
You sound like someone who shouldn't have a firearm of any sort.

many states are different, you should be able to go to your state's webpage and look up info there.
Just remember, a weapon is no good unless you are willing to use it and properly trained to use it. This goes for anything from a pocket knife to a gun.
Just be wise and careful. Good luck.
