It depends on the family you are talking about. There's traditional "nuclear" families in America, and there are crack houses and prostitutes in Britain. It's not fair to generalize entire nations like that.

As Brit living in the US, I would say no, the kids I have met here are definitely more polite and articulate, you don't hear anything like as much foul language like you do from young people in the UK, and I don't know where you get the idea that extreme violence is unacceptable, the laws in the UK allow most people to get off very lightly for acts of extreme violence, go to any major city on a Friday night in the UK and you will see what I mean, as for pornography, I would say the US is far more uptight, you censor everything on TV just about, from slight nudity to the most harmless of swear words, although I think you go too far with this, it is not such a bad thing when you hear the horrible way people talk now in the UK.
AC1BD, you are an idiot, try looking at the facts before you speak, like the battle of Britain, over two years before the Japs made you enter the war and then Germany declared war on YOU, we were fighting to save your arses while you looked the other way and lets face it the US has never won a war by its self, FACT!!!

Britains just tend to be a lot more closed, while Americans are open about what's happening. Extreme violence happens all the time in the UK. it's often more brutal than in the US as knives, clubs, wires and such are more comonly used in crimes, due to the militant gun laws there, that have not reduced crime. The just changed the weapon(s) used. It's only murder per capita that the UK is lower in, not crime in general. I guess you have never been to a rival football match, if you think you can claim violence is "socially unacceptable".
Pornography is less tolerated? Don't make me laugh. There's more "men's magazines" on the newstands, sex shops on the high streets and have you been in a phone box lately? Full color adverts for "services" with business cards all right out in the public for children to see. Not to mention sex films can, and often are shown on TV after 9pm till 5:30am. Kids do get up in the night and put the tele on...don't kid yourself. Sex stuff can only be shown on subscription tv in the USA. Regular tv can't even show breasts, which the same can't be said of UK broadcast tv.
Americans also have a large population of Religious Conservatives who stand very much for family values. Almost no one ever goes to a church for other than a wedding or a funeral in the UK, no less belive in God.
And... lets not forget that over 16's can buy tobacco and alcohol, where it's 18 and 21 respectively in the USA.
WAKE UP !!!

Mike W is a good example of that joke "73% of statistics are made up on the spot." Is he saying Britain and Australia would be safer if everyone carried a gun?!!!
Traditional family values are under assault in pretty well every society, and nobody really knows whether or to what extent this relates to lawlessness in society. Family structures are changing. No doubt humankind will develop customs, standards, values to enhance our lives under whatever changes emerge, but there is a lot of pain in the process. To try to point the finger at a particular society, or engage in the children's playground cry "We're better than you" is distinctly unhelpful.

They (The UK) have more families that are not seperated. You can see Boobs on TV thus less need for pornography and I don't think you have ever been to a football game when Germany is in town because you would take back that Violence in socially unacceptable comment.

The UK is a smaller country with fewer poor ethnic minorities. Pornography doesn't hurt anyone, and extreme violence is socially unacceptable everywhere.
Here's an example of stupid overgeneralization: The British have been global imperalists and conquerors, therefore they are all violent. The English are Soccer hooligans, and the Scottish are boors. The lower class in Britain are all a bunch of drunks, and they have a backwards Monarchy as part of their government. They pay taxes to the queen and the church of England, no separation of church and state, therefore they are all stupid when it comes to modern progressive government. And they all have bad, horrible teeth.
See how utterly stupid it is to bash an entire nation?
All I hear these days is America bashing. So we're all a bunch of uneducated rednecks who pretend we're cowboys while sipping starbucks coffee and getting deep into credit card debt buying things off of infomercials in between watching American football and American Idol and scarfing down fat greasy burgers and 'freedom' fries? And I suppose we all gamble, pay for prostitutes, watch lots of porno, smoke a lot of weed and cigarettes, and blast each other in the face with shotguns?
You think this because Bush is an idiot, therefore we all must be. Well I have news for you friend, part of having "family values" is learning not to be a prejudiced bigot and stereotyping an entire nation. You piss off a lot of people who have never done anything to you that way.
For your information, Americans are also notorious for having a very large population of Christian conservatives who stand very much for family values. So your lazy stereotype is not only crude, it's also patently false.

No country has better family values than Americans.I was in UK and I am from Ukraine I use to read a lot and travel a lot so believe me. It is very important in the USA to have good family to survive and in Russia we did have some anecdote: "Frenchman has wife and Mistress loves Mistress, American has wife and Mistress loves wife, Russian has wife and Mistress loves vodka and Jew has wife and Mistress loves mama." And British they are just more close and we are just more open.

The British people have the same family values like the Americans originally. Both countries have too much freedom
of everything.God wants to destroy you, he will make you crazy. Our school should teach citizenship course, manners.
It is the education, environment change our society. No religion should teach people to kill infidels. That is for sure!

You present false information.
Twenty-six percent of English citizens -- roughly one-quarter of the population -- have been victimized by violent crime. Australia led the list with more than 30 percent of its population victimized. The United States didn't even make the "top 10" list of industrialized nations whose citizens were victimized by crime.
Why? Neither you Brits, nor the Aussies, can defend your/themselves anymore except with rolling pins and brooms. Your government has disarmed you! Too bad...so sad!
