sqrt(x+5) = 1 + sqrt(x-2)
x+5 = 1+ 2(sqrt(x-2) +x-2
6 = 2sqrt(x-2)
3 = sqrt(x-2)
9 = x-2
11=x

Put squares on both sides and you get:

x + 5 = 1 + 2sqrt(x-2) + x - 2 or

sqrt(x-2) = 3 put the squares again and you get

x-2 = 9 or x = 11
