Charles Dickens.

Anyone who's looked at many of my answers probably knows that I love Dickens. His characters and plots amaze me again and again, and I consider him one of my biggest inspirations. Just today I started reading his novel Bleak House, and I bet I'll like it.

Stephenie Meyer, writer of the Twilight Series. Her novels are page flipping. Her character development is moving. When she describes scenes, they're so vivid and stick with you in no way that any other scene can stick with you. The dialog is witty and capturing.
Her writing is crack to me!!
and she seems to know what she's doing and loves to write just for the sake of it and love love LOVES her fans. She is dedicated to her site (I would never doubt that it wasn't her on there), and she is just beautiful when it comes to the passion of her books.

My favorite book author is James Patterson. I like his writing style. He makes all the chapters in his books 2-4 pages long, so you feel like you're moving through the book quicker. Plus, I'm a big fan of a good murder mystery.

That would be F. Scott Fitzgerald--all time best. His use of words go beyond that of any other writer I've ever read, and there have been many. He was capable of putting multiple, complex plots into so few pages--and make it extraordinarily interesting.

I think every 'real' reader has many favorite writers. It depends from time to time... Anyway I would chose Marcel Proust because having read his masterpiece is like to have lived another life: he succeeds in creating a world as real as that we live in and gives the feeling of time as it really passes in our lives.

James Herriott sprang to mind. His stories as a country vet in the Yorkshire dales helped me forget the stresses of modern day living.

gregory maguire, b/c he includes everything from cliff hangers to passion. he has all the elements that a book could possibly have including bright/dark, good/evil, misery/joyfulness, suspense/conclusion. all the characters have numerous sides which makes the story very believable. he has the ability to drag out a story without stretching it. i think he is fantastic and very versatile as he writes for all kinds of audiences.
