Politics, George W. Bush, Conservatives, and the Republican Party have given Terrorism far more power than religion has.

Yes.
Islam is like Communism with some religion thrown in. They have a very small group at the top (kings and ruling class) running the show and a large mass of poorly educated fanatics at the bottom willing to die for the cause. Just like the Communists wanted but never seemed to get.
Also, having "prayer call" five times a day makes it easy to do a head count (notice how they all line up in nice, easy-to-court rows?) to ensure someone is not off somewhere doing something the government does not want them to do. It also gives them five opportunities a day to reinforce the propaganda of the government and make sure everyone knows who the enemy is.
Lenin, Stalin and Mao missed a bet. Had they made Communism a "religion" they could have controlled their people better and would be safe from verbal attack by the USA. After all, the USA must tolerate all "religions" regardless of what the end result is.
It is OK to fight Communism which was out to destroy us, but it is not OK to fight Islam because it is a religion.
Americans can be pretty stupid sometimes.

The same could be said of us.
While we harp about Islam, extremists, and so on--twisting their hatred around one ideal, we've also done the same: Invoking God and using Christianity as a reason to go on killing innocent men, women, and children in the Middle East--and then blaming it on the "enemy".
It's a sad truth which few who support this ignostic "crusade" will openly admit to--let alone accept.
But our leaders in government rarely practice what they preach. Many just use religion as a crutch.
The other sad fact is that religion these days is no longer based on faith and stringent beliefs, but more to the point--power, greed, and politics.

Yes it has. It is impressive really, that so many waste their own lives for the fervor of jihad against the west. I read a very interesting article several weeks ago about the difference between a democratic government, and one built upon religious beliefs. It suggested that they are fundamentally at odds simply because one is inspired by the word of God, at least, ones interpretation of God's word. Make no mistake, radical islamists would annihilate us if they could, and feel right, in doing so. Disgusting, misguided, and true.

I agree that religion should always be kept out of politics and vice versa. Terrorism itself is only a tactic, one that has been applied even in situations where religion is not an issue, and one that works only when people allow it to work.

Political direction with the notion of God's approval is a very seductive thing in leadership. With that hold, a leader can demand the impossible and get it more often than not because "God commands this be done"

It certainly helps fuel terrorists' incentives to carry out their acts.
Also, swap the positions of "religion" and "terrorism" in your question and it would still be true. Terrorism has helped put religious extremism in the limelight and made itself more marketable to impressionable and disenfranchised people who are prone to be violent to begin with.

Rebel which came first.
Do terrorists fight in the name of god or the opposite. That they try to find god after horrible deeds.
