Sometimes my family mistake the speed of their internet connection with the performance of their computer.
They think when they're internet speed is slow, it's because their computer is slow. That is not necessarily the case.
If you do know that you have a fast internet connection ... then it would be the background services that's slowing your computer down ... in which case, you need more RAM.
Keep it mind, Vista's file system is over twice as big as XP, and there are a whole heap more services running in the background running in Vista than previous versions of Windows.
On Vista, you can check your Windows Experience Index which gives you a rating for your computer's performance. There you'll have a fair idea on how well your PC handles Vista.
The WEI is located in Control Panel>Performance & Information Tools.
Cheers

other programs start automatically when you log your computer on. When on the internet look in task manager/performance to see what your cpu usage is, if this is above 80% then this is why it is running slow. Also look in the processes tab in task manager, this will show you what is using your cpu, system idle process should be the highest at around 90%.

Your computer has lots of programs that start when you start your PC.
All are using RAM and CPU even if your not using that program.
Most of these do not need to run at start-up.
Yahoo messenger, Nero, Quicktime, Realplayer, Power DVD, etc
Read the page on my PC help site on using Msconfig.

Upgrade memory, run scan disc, de-fragment your hard drive, run a bandwidth test..... Dial up internet sucks big time, DSL or higher.....Music and movie files eat a lot of hard drive space and slow down performance.
