She just started middle school and is an A/B student in all the honors classes they have. (my point is she is a good, smart kid) She's always been fairly good, to the point of me being appalled when I see kids her age acting immature, because she is very mature. The point is, she recently asked me what kinds of makeup she is allowed to wear. I know she wouldn't cake it on or anything, but I'm scared my daughter will look like a freak. which kinds of makeup?

Glitter, light colors, sheer lip glosses.

I think I was allowed to wear makeup at 12. But wearing makeup at 11 is not a bad thing, as long as they are wearing it correctly.

Start her off with a powder foundation, neutral eyeshadow and clear or pink lip gloss. Mascara might be ok, but I'd recommend brown rather than black. NO heavy black eye-liner, NO obnoxiously bright eye shadows; just the natural looking stuff.

The point is is to make it look like she's not wearing makeup at all. If she thinks this defeats the whole purpose of it, explain to her that that is how adults wear makeup. Hopefully this will only make her feel even more mature.

I'm sure she'd love it if you allowed her to pick out her makeup herself. But give her the guidelines you want to set up before hand to avoid an in-store argument. After you've bought everything, sit down with her and teach her the proper way to apply it. If you supervise her use of makeup, there's no way she'll look like a freak!

Best of luck!

At 11, I think she should wear as little as possible, although I understand how girls these days think they want to be grown-ups. (If only they knew!)

Maybe start with just some eyeshadow and blush, maybe a little lip gloss (not lipstick). You should select the colors. Teach her how to wear colors that are flattering and not too bold.

You should set the rules and allow her to wear more as she gets older. Save the base, powder, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick for when she gets a bit older...adding on as she matures and show you she can wear make-up tastefully.

She is still a little girl, no matter what she thinks. Have fun!

Well, my parents let my sister and I wear makeup at 13. And we couldnt cake it on at that age. We were both very mature too...but anyways, I think at 11 maybe a LITTLE Mascara and a LITTLE clear lip gloss would go a LONG way at her age.

I would let her wear a little lightly colored lip gloss and maybe some powder. Maybe just a little bit of eye shadow, but I would hold off on the mascara until she is older. She is really too young for much else. But I do think that if you allow her to wear a little, then she'll be less likely to be globing it on in the school bathroom behind your back.

Regardless of how mature she is, in my humble opinion, she is much too young. My mother has forbade me to wear any kind of makeup (except for tasteful lip gloss and nail polish) until I'm 16. (Even though I'm 13, and also very mature.) Now, I'm not saying that you go this far, but at least wait awhile. For now, let her wear some "kid"-type makeup for things like makeovers, for special occasions, let her wear lip gloss, and for most days, let her wear nail polish and Lip Smackers. And when you feel she's old enough for more (I would say in about two years--then she can wear lip gloss and blush, then the next year, some eyeshadow, then the next year, eyeliner and mascara...--But you can follow your own time frame!), teach her how to put it on tastefully, and make sure she's not abusing it. It might sound a little prudish, but you'll be glad when she's not caking on pounds of makeup to make herself look "pretty". Good luck!

I would go shopping w/ her for some of that kids lip gloss....meant only to be put on her lips! and, maybe, *maybe* clear mascara, if you don't care, and she's really bugging you to feel more "grown up"
For fun, they have sparkly stuff girls put on their cheeks, but this isn't meant to be worn to school everyday...I hope. I was thinking this would be fun at a sleepover, "makeovers" and such.
Basically no 'real' make-up yet. There's no reason for her to ruin her pretty little face w/ actual make up.

Lip gloss. Maybe you could get her lip gloss with a little color or shine to it. I really think 11 is too young for makeup.
