I have a friend who is bipolar, on medication, but unable to work at this time and I am attempting to help her. She applied for disability benefits from the state but was denied. ( which is not that unusual for the first or second time) I then took her to an atty and that was Dec 3,2006 and atty has done nothingproductive so far. How long should it take an atty to come up with some answers from the state? Texas Thank you..

Attorney's usually have many cases on their desks, and as such, they often let things go slowly as they work on other cases they feel are high priority.

We have had two dealings with attorneys, and in both cases we had to keep calling and emailing them, sometimes weekly, before they did anything regarding our case. In one of those situations, we had to go so far as to ask for a meeting with their boss (the attorney who's name was over the door) and showed him all of the emails we had sent and the lack of response from our attorney. Eventually, we were given a new attorney who was told to treat our case with higher priority.

Ride your attorney. Call them. Email them. Talk to their boss. Educate yourself to make sure their isn't any deadline coming up you need to be aware of.

Literally, it can take years...but, squeaky wheels get the grease, complain to the attorney every so often and keep your friend's case on the radar.
