Explanation for 'Busman's Holiday' :

"A busman's holiday in many respects is no holiday at all.

A number of people, most notably those with major responsibilities, simply dread the idea of taking vacations. They often feel mixed emotions about taking so much time away from their professional duties.

The result is usually called a busman's holiday, in which the person spends his or her vacation time doing the same activities as he or she does for a living."

I am a Registered Nurse.
I spent one holiday helping a friend care for her ailing grandfather.
I spent one holiday helping a friend with Alzheimers move to a proper facility, and cleared out her house.
I spent one holiday helping my friend to care for her husband after a heart attack and respiratory arrest.
I spent one holiday helping a friend with cancer in his last days.
Since retiring, I have volunarily done Hospice Care for several people to whom I was very close.

I did and do these things out of love, based on a skill I have learned and an inate love of people. It is no burden. I never dreaded my vacation time; spent plenty of it just enjoying myself too. Honest. But I understand what you're saying.

Yes a couple of years ago.
My hubby and I have a pub in England and we have friends who have a bar in Greece. They were just beginning to get it off the ground when their Daughter had an accident and had to be taken to Athens for a serious operation and naturally they wanted to be with her so our Son ran our pub and we ran their bar for them for 2 weeks as no-one else was available.Thankfully she survived and is getting married next year.
