"A Bad Dream"!
It was probably a touch of cramp, babies get it too. Remember how painful your last cramp was and imagine how painful it must be to baby. That's why baby will wake up screaming. Try massaging baby before putting him to bed, it'll help.

I am thinking gas. My second daughter would do this, although she was a bit older and it turned out to be a sensitivity to something she ate late in the day. So, if you are breastfeeding it could be something you are eating. Try keeping a food journal and noting the times he does this. Look for consistancy in anything you have eaten.

I have a 8 week old baby girl and she does the same thing. It scared me at first but I figured out what was going on with my little one. I noticed when she did this she was hitting herself in the face. You know like an involuntary arm spasm. when i asked her doctor about she said that it was common in newborns to have spasms like that and that she'd grow out of it. Hope this helps a little.

Usually a build up of gas, does this happen every night ?
I played with mine quite a while trying every which way to de-gas them before putting them down.... the best method I came up with is to lay the baby across my knee on its stomache and rock back and forth...
Best of luck to you.

Most likely something scared him during his sleep.
Babies that young, can't see in color, let alone shapes or pictures. But, they can see grays, blacks and white shaded area. Dream the same way (so I read)
If not, there is a very good possibility of a number of things.
*colic
*constipated
*hungry
*ears
If this keeps on happening, take him to your pediatrician.

Probably reflux or some very bad gas. Try to burp him, but if burping him doesnt work you might need mylecon.
