there is so much raw material here that humans haven't had the time or ability to use it all yet. also, much of what is used merely returns to the earth only to be used later in a different form. also, many, especially "living" resources, renew themselves by dying and becoming the raw material for creating the same or another animal (recycling), and they reproduce while alive, too. A principal taught in sciences at least in the early 20th century is that "matter is never destroyed, nor created -- it only changes form". We can't run out of products. We, and the earth, can only change what products we decide to produce.

To me however, it stands to reason that there is regularly some matter that is leaving earth, as well as some that comes to earth from space. How much, I just wonder a moment and go on using the inexhaustible products we already have.

By the way, I learned this in Biology II: absolutely all the food on earth, for plants and animals alike, is ultimately produced by plants alone-- raw material molecules for this are already here on earth -- but the plants cannot perform this production without the energy they receive in the form of sunlight. I.E. No sun= no food for plant or animal= no plant life. No plant life means no life at all on earth, other than "inanimate" molecules.

In simple words...
1. Someone does a research and finds out what can be done and how can be done with a raw material: mineral, chemical compound, plastic, wood, com binations of the above, etc.

Then he or other person (the business guy) takes over and run the business to implement the how and manufacture the product, runs the marketing/distribution and selling. Sooner or later, they go back to the researcher and ask for an improved product which can do better, be easier to make, or at a least cost and the cycle goes again.

Who are THEY, anyway?

It depends upon what you mean by products.
At the end of the day the earth is finite and has a finite amount of "stuff". It's just that the earth is gigantic and there is a LOT of stuff.

Some things are "mined" and are not renewable. Example: Petroleum. Once it's pumped out of the ground and used it is gone forever because petroleum is formed over millions of years.

Other substances such as water are managed because the water is a renewable resourse( new water comes out of the air as rain). Water can still be misused, however.

Mismanagement can result in the world running out of some things. Many scientists feel the oceans are being severely overfished. It is possible that the world may run out of many types of ocean fish.

Very few products last forever. Therefore, more products need to be manufactured.

Your question might be more relevant if it were reworded to ask, "What keeps the world from running out of materials that make NEW products?"

Who said that we are not runnig out of products? Wait until the oil and gas has been used up and it is too costly to produce electricity for manufacturing.

In capitalist countries, factories will continue to produce items as long as their is a demand for them. Suppliers will continue to find a way to supply the raw products needed for these items as long as factories demand them.
