There are sooooo many different reasons depending on many different factors... could be emotions.. could be they need to feel pain to disassociate ... could be their brain won't allow them to believe their arm is real.. so they decide to check that theory... could be they want attention..... the list goes on... any way you look at it.. they need help though.

They bottle up all emotions, frustrations and anger. And when they cut themselves it's a relase of all those feelings.

Cause they're depressed and the only way they can think of to relieve themselves of stress is to mutilate themselves.
It's sad.

Because some where along the way, they felt unloved, and
blamed them selves for it. Is a part of their feelings.

Simple answer is that the physical pain masks the emotional pain and thus makes it stop.

sometimes it's the only releice of the pain. i've thought about it, havn't started. want to keep it that way. but i bite myself

also, when your life feels like it is flying out from your control, at least you still have that in your power
and religion, so few people know about that
