I think your operational variables need some defining.

Some questions to ask:

Does music increase mnemonic potential?
What memories do people associate to different types of music?
Does music increase the ability to learn and process information?

Those are just some questions. I'm sure you'll find studies if you look through Google Scholar.

I'm an auditory learner.. so all sounds affect my memory in fun little ways :)

Classical music stimulates more of your brain.... not just classical though... it's music that has layers.. and the more layers the more stimulation... jazz, some rock, some heavy metal actually... it's all about the layers man!

Well, I find it difficult to concentrate after listening to music. I always get the song in my head, and when I try to think of a memory, it's like I have a jukebox in my mind that plays the same song and just won't stop.
On the other hand, many people find it easier to concentrate with music playing or with a song stuck in their head. It relaxes them, and makes it easier to concentrate.
Really, it's all due to your mind. I think, it you think you can't remember something or concentrate with music playing, then you won't.

im a muscician and it says music and chewing gum are the 2 things that increase brain activity.
musicions are better in math and science,
and if you listen to music while you study the music will release the brain flow and let you process information and store it in your brain, which is controled by the brain stem
