Melatonin worked well. I used it when I was working nights and I would sleep all day and wake up refreshed.

You can buy it over the counter at just about any drug store.

The following info is from the Yahoo Medication site:

Melatonin is also known as MEL. Melatonin is naturally produced in the body in response to the perception of light.

Melatonin has been used to ease insomnia, combat jet lag, protect cells from free-radical damage, boost the immune system, prevent cancer, and extend life.

I really like 5HTP, made from the seeds of the Griffonia flower. You can buy 5HTP in many pharmacies now and in Health Food stores. The body takes 5HTP and converts it into Serotonin (the feel good and sleep well brain chemical). it works fairly quickly but the best time to take it is about 1and 1/2 hours before you go to bed.

Now that Prozac has gone generic, L-Tryptophan is back on the market. I take one 500 mg. tablet in the afternoon on an empty stomach and 3 an hour before I go to sleep. I have been an insomniac for about 20 years. I can finally sleep. Also, get checked out for parasites. They keep you awake at night too! Eat garlic (kyolic is odorless) and oil of oregano to keep those nasty things at bay.

About 1/2 hour before bed try to let your thoughts go to a good space, then about 10 to 15 minutes before bed warm a cup of milk in the microwave just warm enough so you can drink it down. Go to bed and try to see a place you like to go to in your minds eye. Before you know it, it's morning.
Good luck

Belladona is used for sleeplessness due to congestion, restless sleep, spasmodic motions, frightful images upon closing the eyes and violent throbbing in the brain.
Chamomilla is used mainly for children who cannot sleep due to pain or those who have sleep tormented by vivid, fanciful and anxious dreams.
Arnica is most effective for sleep issues due to jet lag and tiredness. It is also used when the bed feels uncomfortable to sleep.
Aconite is used in conditions where sleep eludes due to shock, grief, anxiety or restlessness.
Arsenicum Album is best suited to conditions where the individual is sleepy during the day but unable to sleep in the night.
