As we all know there has been/is roids in baseball. And I have read numorous comments on there being an asterisks by Bonds name. The fact is we all know he is dirty. We can not prove it and MLB can not prove it so there can not be an asterisks. Also when this 'roid thing comes up folks start pulling out the old amphetamines BS. Yes players used amphetamines, but who? Oh and the fact that records were set before the black players were in the league also doesn't hold water. You can't just start tossing up asterisks on everything because it isn't PC. I say leave the asterisks out and off! Baseball has reached a point now where they do test and players will be busted and they will not get a chance to break records set by legit guys. So do you think in time this will all go away and the guys who want the asterisks (usually they don't know baseball) will stop demanding an asterisks? Shoot next they will want to revist the height of the pitchers mound!

I did not agree when the put an asterisk by Roger Maris' record for season home runs, or Maury Wills stolen bases.
The fans are not as stupid as the commissioner thinks.
Besides people have their own opinions so get over it.

As much as I despise the fact that Bonds has used performance enhancing drugs ( sorry to all you Bonds lovers - not getting caught and being innocent are 2 completely different things - open your eyes) I agree that there can not be asterisks in a record book. A record book is nothing more then numbers, and the bottom line is that Bonds has hit more home runs than anyone else in Major League history. The fact that people put so much weight on statistics shows how truly uninformed most fans are about the history of the game. Records need to be looked at in the era that they were accomplished. Any reasonably intelligent fan knows that the game now is different then it was in the 1970's, the 50's, the 30's, etc. And anyone who bothers to take the time to actually learn even a little bit about the history of the game will learn that we must accept the fact that it is not the same game it was before, and move on.
For all of these people that keep insisting that there was an asterisk next to Roger Maris' 61 home runs, you may be interested to know that there was never an asterisk in the record book. There was, however, 2 separate entries for most home runs in a season - one for Maris' 61 in a 162 game season, and one for Ruth's 60 in a 154 game season. No one ever said that Maris was not the record holder for a single season.

Actually, asterisks have never been used. It would be pointless in the PEDs case anyway because Bud Selig blew any chance at reaching an understanding of the issue. Asterisks are more of a mental idea than a reality.

I have to agree with you. I remember the "Good Ole' Boys" from the Babe Ruth days trying to hang one on Roger Maris when he hit 61 home runs in 1961. They actually got away with it for years until someone wised up and removed it.

The ultimate goal of all of these cheaters is to one day get into the hall of fame. The greatest service the baseball writers and the veterans committee can do is make sure people like Bonds, McGwire, Sosa and all those who took HGH never get in. No asterisks but no hall of fame either.

McGwire, Bonds, Sosa are legitimate stars and their records should never be tarnished. Very few people who have ever walked the planet who have ever played Baseball at the Major League Level. No one has ever hit more Home Runs in fewer at bats than Mark McGwire. Barry Bonds is the son of Bobby Bonds, who was no slouch at the plate or on the base paths. Sammy Sosa has been an excellent ambassador for baseball around the world. They are fabulous players and we should never penalize athletes for accessing cutting edge sports medicine. Sports medicine eventually benefits all of us. So quit fussing about those on the cutting edge, the trend setters.

I am not sure how much effort you want to put into proving something that was admited to in the first place.

I personally don't need an asterisk to know that the achievement of Bonds record was not the same as Aaron's achievement.

I would be against the use of the asterisks as well. The fans can come to their own conclusion as to how they feel about certain players, it's all a guessing game not supported by facts.

61 by Roger Maris. 755 by Hank Aaron. Those are the home run records until someone does it cleanly. Nuf Ced.

actually, there is enough evidence available to convict bonds. ever hear of BALCO? yeah, the congressional hearings and subsequent testimony is enough to prove that bonds has used steroids. besides the obvious.

Another oft forgotten thing is that performance enhancing steroids are illegal w/o a prescription, not just against the rules.
