I'm 3 cm and 60% effaced 38 weeks and have a doc appt. today. I just got off the phone with my best friend and she said that they might send me over to the hospital today if I dilated and effaced more. She said that with her daughter, she was 5 cm and 80% effaced with no contractions at 37 weeks and they broke her water that day. My question is is how dilated and effaced can you be before they will induce? Thanks!

Most won't induce simply because you're dilated. Most of the time by the time you hit 4-5cm you will be in labor or will go into labor shortly, but on a rare occassion a woman might walk around dilated that far for a few days or a week.

I was 3cm and 100% effaced for over 3 weeks with one of my kids. It's not unusual.

It really depends on your O.B. Most wont induce if there are no contractions, simply because once they break your water there is no turning back, you will only have 24 hours to deliver before a c-section. I was 38 Weeks and 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced and I left the doctors office that day and went into labor two days later. Just walk around and try to get those contractions started. Good Luck!

I was dilated to 4 and 100% effcaed and didn't have noticeable contractions at all, so I was shocked when my doctor told me that. I went into labor soon after. I had a very quick 2 hour labor. Inductions are done for medical reasons (or at least are supposed to be). Obviously your body is doing what it should on it's own.
